چکیده

ABSTRACT For nuclear waste vitrification in the Tank Waste Treatment and Immobilization Plant (WTP) at Hanford site, feed is charged into a continuously fed electric melter molten glass poured stainless steel containers to solidify. The heat from must be removed facility within plant operating constraints, making knowledge of thermal properties glasses critical. capacity low‐activity with systematic variations composition were studied using complementary analyses – power‐compensated differential scanning calorimetry (pcDSC) 50–630°C, heat‐flux (hfDSC) 200–800°C, drop 600–1200°C. Variations have been observed around transition temperature ( T g ) above, particularly when B 2 O 3 Al varied. Above , all exhibit decreasing increasing temperature. A correlation was found between this curve fraction [4] glasses, suggesting boron coordination plays role anomalous behavior. These measurements will used as critical input validate balance calculations for design thus overall operation WTP.

Simple derivation of the frequency dependent complex heat capacity

This paper gives a simple derivation of the well-known expression of the frequency dependent complex heat capacity in modulated temperature experiments. It aims at clarified again that the generalized calorimetric susceptibility is only due to the non-equilibrium behaviour occurring in the vicinity of thermodynamic equilibrium of slow internal degrees of freedom of a sample when the temperature...

Practical approach for measuring heat capacity of pharmaceutical crystals/glasses by modulated-temperature differential scanning calorimetry.

A practical protocol to obtain accurate heat capacity values of pharmaceutical compounds using modulated-temperature differential scanning calorimetry was established. Three pharmaceutical compounds, acetaminophen, indomethacin, and tri-O-methyl-β-cyclodextrin were used as model compounds. Powder samples did not produce reproducible results, presumably due to inclusion of gas in gap of powders ...

Heat capacity in proteins.

Heat capacity (Cp) is one of several major thermodynamic quantities commonly measured in proteins. With more than half a dozen definitions, it is the hardest of these quantities to understand in physical terms, but the richest in insight. There are many ramifications of observed Cp changes: The sign distinguishes apolar from polar solvation. It imparts a temperature (T) dependence to entropy an...

Heat Capacity in Bits

The temperature T may be expressed as the rate of energy increase per unit increase in the state uncertainty under no-work conditions. The consequences of such a choice for heat capacities are explored. I show that the ratio of the total thermal energy E to kT is the multiplicity exponent ~log–log derivative of the multiplicity! with respect to energy, as well as the number of base-b units of m...
